About Us π
Bridging Culture and Education for Brilliant Minds
Our Story π
As a devoted mother and honored steward of three young children, Dr. Teah Hairston-Johnson is always seeking culturally-reflective learning materials to stimulate and enliven their learning experience.
Recognizing a gap in the quantity, quality, and accessibility of African/Black-centered learning tools, Dr. Teah began creating her own. Starting with handwritten/illustrated alphabets, numbers, sight words, and affirmations, Dr. Teah began using digital programs to create her childrenβs learning materials. Sharing her work with friends and family, they strongly encouraged her to make these learning materials accessible to other parents and educators.
Inspired by her love for family and community, Dr. Teah began developing and designing unique card decks for Black/African children on a broader scale, featuring vibrant patterns and colors, a fusion of African diasporic languages (AAVE, Spanish, Swahili, Yoruba, etc.), reflective images, and culturally affirming art. Each card is crafted to affirm identity, celebrate heritage and history, and make learning a joyful, culturally enriching experience for children across the diaspora.
Dr. Teah is an African-centered Sociologist, trained in African-centered psychology. She has gained local and national recognition for her work in mental, maternal, and community health.
